Anybody out there who can recall the origin, triumphs and eventual break-up of this formidable group of sabungeros in the 80's (or is it 90's?).
I came to know of this group's exploits by word of mouth. Can somebody fill us up?

The PAWARAT team/group was composed of four people ; Masongsong, Decolongon, Lim and Guanco. These four came from the province of Negros Occidental. Sometimes, their entry ,aside from PAWARAT, is their initial which is MDLG. This team/group garnered a couple of championships in the mid-80's to early 90's, most of them in Bacolod,Iloilo some in Cebu and nearby provinces. The two members that i personally know is Jem Guanco and Joe Lim as they just lived in the town where i was born and raised. As far as i know, the best fowl of the group that was used were Guanco's breed. Last but not least was their official gaffers; the late Paping who popularized the malaysian type of knife and George that lives also in my home town and their handlers Baloy and Esperidion.

during the first year na lumabas ang PAWARAT entry kinakalaban ko dahil kilala at kaibigan ko ang mga katapat. Champion sa Candelaria ang pawarat- noong pumunta ako ng Bacolod doon ko nalaman na ang mga inahen pala ng pinakamagandang cross ay full sister ng mga brood hen ko(lola ng mga crosses ko), Sinamahan ko the next year-champion ulit.
PAWARAT was indeed a piece of history in sabong. I can still remember sticking my eyes on Espiridion...oh! guys he is such a professional handler-may kaibigan ako na kahit anong ginagawa ni espiridion ginagaya n'ya pati posistion kung mag limber.
Performance? hangang ngayon wala pa akong nakitang performance na ganoon kahit sa WSD.

I am a second generation afficionado of the sport. I had been more involved in the betting side of the sport until I got my first fowl.

I bought it during the early 90's from Danny Alvior a former officemate who raises his cocks in Talisay, Negros. Danny told me that his breed lines came from Carding Masongsong of Pawarat fame.

I think esperidion is still with the Ramirez bros. He has been there in Davao handling the entry of Oyok and Bugok Ramirez every Araw ng Davao derby.

There is a possibility that Esperidion might go back to Jem Guanco's stable sooner or later. Was with Jem a couple of times just last October but 4got to mention about Esperidion and his plan to revive his breeding farm which I heard from reliable sources in our town of Hinigaran, Neg. Occ.

Last heard of Esperidion that their entry won solo in the Candelaria 2006 and presently handling the farm of Bugok Ramirez or the brother? Met him last May 2005 during 3 cock derby of JEG at Paticui, Hinigaran and we tangled in our second fights.. which luckily I won. He's a quite and simple guy..kung di lasing...hehehe. Incidentally, during that time his younger brother Edgar was our handler/pitter in derbies. Yon pala di magkabati ang magkapatid! nyahaha..

I presume the winning the bloodline of PAWARAT team (or Jem's only?) were Democrats! Not sure about it.

Had also a long chat with Jorge Sibala (one of their trusted gaffer) last Apr 05 during a fiesta derby in Hinigaran. We came across with the PAWARAT stories...and man..he's garbling with words after bottles of beer.. and I learnt some secrets from him...hehe. Never thought that at that time they were already using something that I've just heard today in sabong.

Jem Guanco and Joe Lim were both hard gamblers (more of Joe I think) during those days. Balita ko, the 2nd time they won the Candelaria derby, dumaan pa sila sa casino at naubos ang pinanalong premyo! haha.. Weird ain't it? Character wise, both are friendly and approachable!

Well..we could only hope that the PAWARAT name will shine again in the days to come. Watch 'em out!

Espe was with Nonoy Maloto when they win the 97' candelaria and move to the Ramirez in Lambunao..So far where going to see each other in the candelaria'07.. THE" MLGD PAWARAT" the unfogetable team.

It's good to look back and remninisce those good olden days. Yes I admire the PAWARAT group, they became champions not because of luck but really hard earned, they were also matched against the bigwigs of those olden times.
In those olden times, only the "Haves" have the best quality chickens, and there were not that many.
Nowadays, so many can afford to send live breeding materials, so many learn how to prepare and point their roosters taking away those advantages from the "HAVES
Even a "have not" like me and many of us now have good, selected breeding materials that is why winning nowadays is really a hard earned victory.
What I mean is, even if PAWARAT regroups, they will meet tougher oppositions than when they did during those years of their domination in the Visayas islands.
I look forward to the futurre when PAWARAT again will be on the ranks of, Raffy, Blue Blade, Clear Creek, PA's Complexor and other big name cockers , as the yardstick of how good our backyard breeding is.
