Wink McLanahans

I recently acquired 12 stags from a breeder from Cagayan De Oro. Some of the birds, according to him, has McLanahan blood.
Aside from the fact that these birds are good in the long knife, I know very little about these particular line. Can anyone out there with knowledge/info on these birds share them with me. These are real nice looking birds but too young to spar yet. I will be relying on your info to confirm them later.

Thanks alot.

Maclanahans are pure strain that originated from 1/2 Roundhead and 1/2 Clarets. These are decent fowl for long knife as they cut good. The most prominent american that breeds this strain is Paul Webster. I hope this info will help.

Enjoy your fights,

hhhmmmmnnnn.... 1/2 roundhead and 1/2 claret.....

This would mean that the McLanahans would probably be high breakers, smart and stylish. Now if they were crossed with radios or kelsos, that would be O.K. right.

These would probably what I would be looking for when they spar.

TO randy, I got my stags from BAR FARM. From a very amiable fellow named Ben A. Rara.
I can give you his phone no. and e-mail addy if you want it.

Thanks guys....more info from others would be nice....like who breeds them here in Luzon, what would be the best match for breeding battle crosses... are these birds early maturing?

yes, Mclanahans would cross well with kelso and radio as they have almost the samefighting characteristics. But don't take my word hook, line and sinker. I would suggest that you carefully select your broodstocks that compliment each other in terms of fighting style, body structure and cutting ability.

We have sparred three of the birds that I got from Ben A. Rara last Saturday. These were Kelso X McLanahan, Kelso X Butchers and MacLanahan X Butcher crosses. All I can say is that of the three we sparred, all were excellent. High breakers, body hitters, able to deliver blows from different angles and most of all heady. They don't duck under their opponents.

We were all impressed. I hope that they bring this to the pit when the time comes. I can't wait.....

I've heard about Mr. Rara's bird and would like to try them. I'm planning on coming home this June and talk to Mr. Rara in purchasing a few birds. Since you have experienced the whole process; Can you tell me if there are any other charges/fees like airport fees, and if so how much? I hope you can share any information regarding the transaction and the birds performance on Jan in Pampanga. I too am from Pampanga, in Angeles city to be exact. Anyways, I hope this is not an inconvinience. Thanks

Good for you my friend. I've scheduled three of them for a three cock derby on April 27th at guagua. The derby is for the benefit of our town fiesta. Cockers from Sn. Fernando, the likes of Engr. Esguerra, the Calulot group as well as cockers from guagua and lubao are expected to join. Its really going to be a test for them. I've been preparing them for a month now. I just hope they can let it all out on fight day.

keep you guys posted on the outcome.

I would just like to relate my experience with the McLanahans. This is just my personal experience with them and I am in no way trying to tarnish this name.

As you all know, these are basically 1/2RH 1/2 Claret. They are very good but I find that pure RH's and pure Clarets perform better than McLanahans. I don't know why. I can't explain this, but this is my personal experience.

Anyone else had this experience before?

Kimora and the rest of the guys,

The mclanahans I got from BAR farm performed very good. I fought for the money fight at the Sta. Rita 3 cock derby and I almost came out solo champpion.

I used two mclanahan and a kelso x round head cock. my first and second fights were both mclanahans. I was always dehado but both won with just slight cuts. The third fight, my kelso x roundhead cock was hit in the head, it scampered away in momentary daze and pain, but went back to down the opponent. I lost in the coreo, because the sentensyador, realizing that the favored cock could no longer walk, released both cock very close to each other after the coreo, the other cock which was at least three years old, was able to deliver a sigle hit on the the neck of my bird near the throat area, instantly killing my bird. before this, my bird was actually ahead and was standing its ground.

These BAR farm birds were 20 months old fought against 3 year olds in a derby where the pot money is 5,500 and entries from nueva ecija and bulacan were also fielded. It was a tough field, but the mclanahans of BAR farm fought very well.

YIS

esjleaf,

Please don't get me wrong, I believe that your McLanahans are really great gamecocks (which is why they win for you in derbies). I am not saying they are not great. All I am saying is that in my limited experience with them I found that pure Roundheads and pure Clarets performed just a little bit better for me. But please keep in mind also that the McLanahans I tried did not come from the same breeder whom you got your winning McLanahans from. That makes a lot of difference. I just hope I did not upset you in any way.

Congrats ESJ, a little bit more luck and champion na. Perhaps the opponent is just a little bit luckier than you are that night.

Kimora, Ad infinitum, Kidd, pinolim and tiroga and friends,

The fight was originally scheduled april 27, at the Sn.Anton coliseum (guagua) with an entry fee of 3,300. But only 12 entries came. So, the promoter, decided to combine this derby with the one in Sta. Rita coliseum which was also a three cock derby with a pot money of 5,500.

The fight schedule was also changed, from the original 9:00 pm, it was held earlier at 3:00 pm, so we were really disadvantaged schedule wise coz, we have already fed our birds which was to last until 4 or 5 pm in time for the 9:00 pm fights.

Thanks. Kimora, we were not champions but I am satisfied. The birds fought well, we did not get the right break at the right time. But the other birds were also tough and well prepared.

The money we won was enough to pay for the 12 cocks we got from bar farm. That alone makes us very happy.

Ad infinitum, I understand your point and I'm not upset. This is only my first time to try out the Mclanahans so I cannot claim to be an expert on this breed either.

Your comments are based on your experiences and I respect that, so don't worry about me, I'm o.k. with your posts.

YIS.
