Zambo breeders try to rekindle old glory

COCKERS from the newly formed Zamboanga del Norte Gamefowl Breeders Association (ZNGBA) and the Zamboanga Gamefowl Breeders Association (ZGBA) dispute honors in the regional eliminations of the Bakbakan 2003 National 8-Stag Derby on Oct. 25 at the Dipolog Coliseum in Dipolog City. The ZNGBA breeders, backed by Thunderbird Power Feeds, makers of Thunderbird Platinum, are out to rekindle the popularity they enjoyed during the prime of cocker Boy Primalion when the Zamboanga whites were the most sought-after fighters on the local cocking scene. Formed only last June, the group is headed by Antonio B. Aseniero and vice-president Rogelio Martinez. The Zamboanga City-based ZGBA, led by Manny Dalipe and Bobby Fernandez, are expected to give its sister team a tough fight in the 3-stag elimination event. The winners will advance to the National Derby, slated at the Araneta Coliseum on Nov. 22, 24 and 26.
