Kaloy,

I have his RH, Sweater YL Hatch, and his Kelsos. As far as RH's are concern, they are the best I have ever own. A little late maturing but at two years of age, they are pretty hard to beat! I've tried Boston from Greg Graley and Lacy from Ray alexander but by far, these are the best. The sweaters on the other hand are fast shuffling machines, very aggressive and dead game. The pure ones are coming out medium station but crossed them with the RH's and you have the perfect battlecross, in my opinion. The kelsos are average birds for the LK but have done real well in the SK for me. These are my experiences with his birds. Hope it helps...

YFIS,

Thumbs up

I have Pope Roundhead blood from Arnel here in Hawaii. They are everything Arnel said and more. Excellent station, and great speed. I have crossed them to my Kelso's and they are proving to be a good niche.
We had one tested an win at 9 months old this year. I am currently crossing them to Hatch and Asil.
Arnel also gifted me with a Sweater pullet, which I have crossed to my Hatch, and am eagerly awaiting the results of that pairing.
Hope this jelped,
YFIS
Edwin

when i was interviewing patrick puno for the tukaan program, he told me about his experience on one of his us visits. seems his hosts bruce barnette and chris nesmith passed by some farm and told him that this old breeder just passed away and if patrick was interested in this guy's roundheads since the son didn't know anything about chickens. so together with john capinpin and the madlambayan brothers, they sparred some and were impressed by the brute power and incredible fighting ability of these roundheads. they bought about 15 roosters to test back in the phil. and all but one won impressively, some multi times and when patrick puno went back to buy the original brood pen, he found out that james pope bought them all already lock stock and barrel. i forgot now who that breeder was: george lay or george woods, or george something. heard they were some of the best lacy's that side of the states. hope this helps.

Emoy, what year did this happen? I mean when did James Pope buy this person's (George) broodstock. Is this the Lacey bloodline that James Pope is selling nowadays? Thanks for the info.

odyssey,
i really don't know exactly what year patrick puno was referring to. but i believe patrick set up his dominator farm in the mid 90's. so it would be safe to assume that james pope got those roundheads more or less during that time, give or take a year or two. so that should be somewhere in 1995, 96 or 97.

Odyssey the birds your are refering to I think belonged to Geore Lay. George Woods is still alive. There is still some of MR Lays blood in our area.

James Pope did purchase the majority of the fowl of the late George Lay from his son Richard. These were the Sweaters and the Lacy Roundheads. I was able to order two trios each from James, and they are just wonderful fowl. Good bodies, fast, strong, good station and good cutters.

James sold some of the original George Lay stocks to friends until he found out how these were winning in big fights. When I visited James in Texas, I saw a pen with a cock and 3 hens, the same family as the earlier Roundhead trios he sent to me. I offered James a considerable amount but he declined. This was the same amount Ken Fujiyama of Hawaii offered James for the same pen. The fowl marked 4 web, right nose of James was made from this bloodline and they are winning. Two won at the last Roligon Anniversary Derby. These Roundheads are game. Very game. Hope this helps.

brod tiny,
peace!
i heard from james the last time he was here that half of his breeding stocks are already here in the country. if true, are they with dong lacson? or with ompong plaza? he wanted to check out some farm location in laguna. i told him he'll be better off in mindanao. from the above posts, i'm glad the pieces of the puzzle have come together and have fit to a tee. a sense of joyful serendipity comes to me whenever some cocking mystery unfolds naturally through inputs from other sabungeros. james pope's roundheads is one fine example.

sana ganito lagi ang mga nag-popost very professional. james is a good guy, i always joke around w/ him during texoma days especially hawaiian tribute. mang freddy yulo was the one who introduce him to me. yong mga ibang tao kasi nagpopost dito di naman tumutulong sa kapwa kundi nangbabastos.

sir emoy,
very informative inputs.
sir tiny,
thanks for dropping by and sharing information to us here. nice george lay rh hen i got from you. remember the day ka mimi itchon borrowed your original george lay imported hen? it was the very same day that i purchased a trio from you. the george lay's lacy rh really is awesome! the offsprings are just what you described. unfortunately, the newton wade sweater broodcock died when one of the karachi-lemon cocks being conditioned got loose from his pen. both of them died sulking blood. the perry hatch hen may have accidentally eaten a spider coz he was full of zest in the morning and just found dead at the range w/out any wound in the afternoon. i'll cherish the roundhead hen from you. God bless! may you find time to visit this site once in a while and share inputs out of your ever busy scheds.

James Pope's Fowls

Guys I've seen Mr. Popes fowls on DVD and they are amazing.
How much did it cost you guys to acquire a trio from him. I am a beginner and I am really hoping to get prized brood fowls. Is it really heavy on the wallet if you import from the states to P.I., considering the taxes plus the brokers' fees and everything? Can you guys advice me on this subject.

Thanks a lot. I want to know the consequences before I call Mr. Pope. Salamat ulit!

pin i seen the rh it's nice i went to alabama 3 months ago to visit my friend and col. givens i bought some b. abbott rh this guy was the partner of billy before he pass away they won cocker of the year 1993 at sunset i'l try to breed w/ my gilliam rh then cross them hens w/ my givens cock. but i hope it cud be better for you to cross the claret cock to your rh hens. i remember the times when i use to train chickens for elmo lewis, jack glick, and the late bob hunter they always tell me if you have this 3 bloodline hatch, claret, butcher to cross with, this are all power blood you will always be tough and i agree w/ them coz they have done so good in fighting roosters. pin if you want to get some more of those claret fr. howard belk i found his no. i'l call him this week and i'l let you know how much is the trio but i think $500 or $600 then $300 for shipping romy a. my friend he only charge $100 per head. howard is very picky. but i can always buy chicken fr. him.

sdgf,
thanks a lot again for the info. i'l keep you posted. we'll discuss this w/ bro victor. i was searching for good claret hens 3mos before the on-set of this year's breeding season and i already have purchased from a lawyer friend who has a good imported madigan line. i was impressed w/ the records of his clarets w/c made me decide to purchase two island born full sisters from him to mate w/ my old claret cock. but i'm still also interested w/ the line of howard belk. it's just that it's not yet in the priority list coz of prior purchases. i may opt of other preferences to import. i'll just let you know as soon as bro victor and i have final decision. we both have lots of purchases this year. but his' are battlefowls. God bless!
