Lump under the beak of my hen

Dear doc TED...my hen has a lump under her beak..and there is a scar inside it..the scar is blackish..and her opening ( through her throat) is always watery ( saliva) and the side is swollen...I assumed then that she has a canker ..so i gave her flagyl and other antibiotic...then now the lump...she's still having a very hard time eating...It seems that her tongue is not working right and she's having difficulty in swallowing food..she's having a hard time eating wet or dry feeds (pellets and graings)...she's more comfortable eating cooked rice, bread or soaked dog food...she is getting thinner..and dehydrated...
What can i do Doc ted?? can i cut open the lump?? Is she dehydrated because of overdose of antibiotic??? Pls.. advice me Doc..again..thank you and GodBless..

Sir gorio31,

good day po!

just want to know .... is the scar cause by fighting?

coz if it is i have a similar incident with my rooster when i did not notice that their coop has a hole and just saw them badly bruise and face blooded

after a week I notice that one of my rooster have a lump under his beak tried antibiotics but did not work and he cannot eat same as you're hen so in the end i resulted to operating him and removing the lump size of a "HOLEN"

and luckily he's been ok after 2 weeks of medication

just be careful of hitting some nerves when doing this operation....

just trying to help....

but maybe Doc TJT or our cockmates have a another solution to you're problem

just wait...

Re: Lump under the beak of my hen

Sir Tobruk..I've just bought the hen 3 months ago and did not notice the problem till the next day when it doesnot have any appetite to eat...so I didnot know for sure what happen before...when i check on the hen's mouth i saw that there is a swelling part with white stuff(abscess)..I assumed it was canker...I didnot mind so much about the black scar from the swelling part to it's tongue's...
Any way..i really want to cut it out..but hesitant coz of what you've said...it's not yet as large as a "holen" or marble...just the size of a corn yet...
thanks for your reply sir tobruk...where and how large can the incision be...

sir Gorio31,

good day ...

as you said the lump is just a size of a corn, i think it is best we wait for a professional advice from Doc TJT before resulting to operation because that small maybe it can still be treated by means of medication

keep on cocking......

peace....

Re: Lump under the beak of my hen

Since you have already given her some medications but still have not recovered....then your next option is surgery. I think it needs to be operated in order for you to remove the abcess inside her beak. Posting a close-up picture might be of help...in order for me to identify if it's a tumor or canker.
At any rate, give soaked dog food to put more weight on her.
You can also give Gerber Baby Food.
You can call me @09165742427.
