Post Red Mites

May I ask you doc If it is good to use an extracted oil from the snakes like "sawa"(fats from the snake that dried on the bottle from the sunlight to become oil ) because my friend
told me that it is powerful weapon to remove red mites. But then Its smell is powerful also after a long time.Did it affect my respiratory system of my acecock?
Thank you doc and more power....

Red face Re: Red Mites

sir eugenic,

sorry can't give you any info about extracted oil from snakes but regarding RED MITES this is what we do:

1st day delouse rooster using Malathion 1 tablespoon in a regular bucket of water
and the day after dip them again using Sagupaan Mite Free solution 1 sachet this is very effective the only disadvantage is maybe it is stressful for the roosters .

hope it helps............

Thumbs up Re: Red Mites

I don't think that is practical Mr. Tobruk, because you spent so much in your gamefowl.
But I'm not saying the product you used is not effective in fact, I used to applied them but then, red mites are still there after 2-3 days while oil of non poisonous snake is 100% effective and you can also use it one day before the fight.
And some veterenarian of Thunderbird where I attending from their Seminar told us that they did not use malathion in their acecocks.

Red Mites

Red mites are nocturnal parasites. They burrow inside the hole or in the crevices of their roost poles during the day and attacks your bird at night. To break their life cycle would mean applying a substance to their lesions (in-between their legs and breast).
Honestly, I have never tried using snake oil extract. Since your friend have tried it, find out from him if he has encountered any side effects on his roosters. If he claims that his roosters stayed healthy and didn't have any adverse reactions to the snake oil, then it's okey. Malathion has a strong smell but since it is a liquid it easily dries up and the red mites can recur easily.

What I use is KWELL Shampoo (Mercury Drug store) and this provides a good protection against red mites for about a month. Therefore, you can keep them red mite-free while they are on a Keep.
Changing their roost poles can provide longer protection against red mites. Painting the roostpole with used oil is also a good way of sealing the holes and crevices.....where they settle at night.

Doc how do you this Kwell Shampoo?

it is the normal way of dipping? or

it it the same way as what some vets do ( as seen on Tv ) like using cotton buds and applying the shampoo on the area where redmite is?

Re: Red Mites

A Pfizer brand of Doramectin injectable antiparasitic. I Think it is dectomax I forgot the name, costing 500 pesos for 100 ml.

This is not recoomended but I have tried this personally after a losing battle against the red mites using all pesticides dips and sprays, and sometimes spraying early in the evening when they are supposed to be out of their hiding places in cracks and crevices to feed on our fowls.

I tried it first on a few heads of culled fowls on the most infested teepees at a dose of .15 to .2 of an ml according to their size and waited a week for adverse effects. It did not show any bad effects and in fact the ones with a paler face actually turned red without any supplement aid without affecting their sparring abilities. They still showed a few bite marks for a few days in the morning when I check on them but eventually stopped totally after over a week. Same thing happened with the hens that I used for testing, they still lay continually and were tested without bad effects on ferility. That was December 2006 when I used it, and there is no bad effect on their eyesight up to now.

After all these testing, I injected all of them including the broodstocks and cocks on chords. The hens laid a lot more fertile eggs and healthy chicks.

This antiparasitc injectable is supposed to get rid of all external and internal parasites except tapeworm. It can get rid of hard to reach parasites like eye worms, lung and heart worms and mites like ear and lung mites and all kinds of lice and ticks. This will stay in our fowl's system for several weeks and will kill their parasites even in larval stage.

Again I don't recommend this because I am not sure of its effects on regular and long term use. But a one time use worked for me.

Re: Red Mites

I apply it directly to the lesions, using a cotton buds.

The recommendation of alex-g is A-okey. That also reminds me of Ivomec.
