Re: Doc, your attention pls... This is a great topic
Quoted from cnucum:
Anyway the bottom line for that post which affects a chicks sex are these: 1. Health of the hen... The healthier the hen, the greater the chances of larger percentage of males.. 3. Hormone levels in the hen... The greater the testosrone level in the hen, the greater the chances of larger percentage of males... Although the effects of the high testosterone level on the hen should be checked... I would like to ask our good doctors (vets) here in the site on their input regarding this matter... These are just thoughts on the matter and do not reflect (or claim) in anyway that they are correct or will work... Just another subject for "discussion" for interested parties... __________________ MAK-GUYVER backyard game farm Let me answer you punto for punto: 1. Priming our broodstocks prior to breeding is a standard procedure that we do whenever we start to breed. But more often than not, we still get the same female to male ratio. 2. It is a fact that a breeder would always select the best looking brood cock that money can buy. Even if you use a picture cock, it is not a guarantee that it'll produce more males. 3. In the academy, I recommend testosterone propionate... be injected to our broodcocks before mating them. Injecting such substance to females is something that would defy mother nature...but in the case of experimentation to produce more males than females...you would do such a thing. I have tried it before but there was no convincing result and my objective was not met. In my experience, I came to a conclusion that there are certain individuals (exceptional hens) that produce more males than females. Selecting such hens is the most reliable answer that I can think of. This is indeed a great topic....amusing & informative! The fact that no one has ever perfected breeding...makes this endeavor an exciting sport! Last edited by tjtcokngacademy : October 29th, 2007 at 03:06 AM. |

thank you for sharing your experience, doc.. and i do agree with you that the male:female ratio will always balance out in the end.. for example, 1 of my hens hatched out 7 females and only 1 male in her first season and then on the following season, she had 7 males and no female.. |

breed her and find out. you lose 1 or 2 breeding seasons just trying to find out (but not really, bec the produce even if there are less male, you still have males) but you have a producer for so many more years if she turns out to be one.
