Wax in ears
Hello Doc,
It has been a while. I see through the posts here that things are going well for you. I have a rooster with what looks like wax in it's true eardrum. I used the drops for ear mites but it has not worked I was wondering if it was from a cold? How can I get rid of this problem this is a good chicken and I want to use him in a derby but I will not if he's not 100 % so I would like some input please? |

Re: Wax in ears
Roosters with Ear infections should undergo an 'Antibiotic Therapy" for about a week. It is important to clean the ear canal of any unwanted cerumen (WAX) by applying 2 drops of an Otic solution for humans like gentamicin drops to the affected ear twice a day for 10 days. Daily cleaning of their ears should be done continuously for 2 weeks.

Wax in ears
We have to be careful that water does not seep into their ears during a water bath (delousing while dipping the rooster in a pail of water). Once water enters and remains in the ear canal, infection can set in and the result would be the accumulation of cerumen.
Another factor that can lead to excessive production of cerumen in the ear is due to trauma. This can occur after a hard blow in the head region during a sparring session. Last edited by tjtcokngacademy : September 4th, 2007 at 05:07 PM. |

Doc We did this for three weeks cleaning the ears twicw a day. We don't have access to GENTAMICIN on Guam so I gave him cefalxin with no success. What else can we do to help the chicken recover? |

CrookedToe
What you need is an antibiotic ear drops or an Otic Solution which you can administer....directly to the rooster's infected ear (ear canal).
I suggest that you look for a substitute (gentamicin or garamycin otic solution) in your local pharmacy. Last edited by tjtcokngacademy : October 28th, 2007 at 01:07 PM. |
