I read your posts on a regular basis and they are very helpful to me as a beginner and newbie cocker... Will be wanting to attend one of your Academy Seminars in the future hope one will come to Cebu again...I enjoy my fowl very much and would like to ask of you the following question...

What Medicines, medically wise and health wise should be kept at the farm?
Thanking you in advance for your reply and have a nice day

Re: Farm Medicines

for maintenance we use multi vitamins and minerals made by kirkland twice a week half tablet each. for avoidance of procurement of disease we do flush them once a month with amytyl.

Re: Farm Medicines

These are the things I would have in my medicine cabinet in the farm.

For maintenance, growth and strengthening:
  • B Complex Vitamin (injectables)
  • Iron (injectable)
  • Cod liver oil (liquid & capsule)
  • Vitamin A, D & E injectables
  • Electrolytes
Given to roosters on cord and during breeding season.
Here are some suggested broad spectrum antibiotics that can be used alternately for treatment of various gamefowl diseases:
  • Water Soluble antibiotics for birds less than 4 months old like Baxidil, Aquadox & Gallamycin
  • For 4 months above:
  • Baytril injectable,
  • Ampicin injectable
  • Gentamycin Sulfate injectable.
Oral Antibiotics: Cephalexine Suspension for birds younger than 3 months; Cephalexine Capsule 250mg for stags and cocks as your reliable antibiotic to treat various infectious diseases.
  • Tincture of Iodine for external wounds (Betadine).
  • Red Kote (Scarlet Oil) antiseptic
  • VetRx
  • It would be best to keep some instruments like surgical forceps and scissors.
  • Tuberculine syringe
Please take note that these vitamins and antibiotics should be properly stored to maintain their potency. It would be best that you have a medicine cabinet to protect the medicines from sunlight and hang it in a cool corner of your cockhouse.

Re: Farm Medicines

if i may ask doc is there an available parenteral vitamin of A D & E for our chicken and better yet if you know a preparation for us human i will be more glad.

in addition to doc's input iron is poisonous to our chicken when given too much (galing kay doc yan turo nya sa amin). and electrolytes can be home made it is a mixture of sugar and vinegar the proportion will follow for i have to be certain about it.

Re: Farm Medicines

You can use Introvit injectable or Duphafral multi-injection which are available in Progressive & Farmbreed Poultry Supply.

Anak ni Pepe is right....Iron should not be abused, because chickens don't have the mechanism to excrete excess iron in their body and would only lead to iron toxicity.

Re: Farm Medicines

Vitamin B11: Pteryl-hepta-glutamic acid – Chick growth factor, which is a form of Folic acid.
I'll try this for my 4 months stags and try to compare their ht advantage to their parent.

Vitamin B comes from a number of natural sources, including potatoes, bananas, lentils, chilli peppers, tempeh, liver oil, liver, turkey, and tuna.

Re: Farm Medicines

You can use a guage 19 or 21 whenever you inject oily solutions like Vit. ADE injectables.
