Mixing vitamins in the feed

Good day Doc,
I have 20 cockrels at home and i find it quite a hassle to orally feed each individual cock these supplements. Recently I devised a way to cut down on that by mixing the Vit. C, B complex and multi Vit tablets into the evening feed. These tablets are the type prescribed for human consumption. I mix I tablet of Vit C, 3 Tablet of B Comples and 1 tablet multi Vitamin grounded and mixed in their feed, wet. These is for 20 cocks, and it is done and given to them daily. The question here is would these supplements lose its effectiveness if mixed with the feed? and is the amount of supplement that i am giving sufficient or too much? These pills are to be taken I pill per day if consumed by human. Thanks

Re: Mixing vitamins in the feed

Better use feed supplement for poultry or fighting cock prescribed so as to eliminate guess work. This is formulated by the expert in pou;try nutrition so the amount or proportion of vitamins and minerals is base on standard or what we call minimum daily requirements. Just check out at the agrivet in your locality.

Mixing vitamins in the feed

There are 2 types of vitamins: water-soluble & fat-soluble. The water soluble vitamins are Vit C (abundant in carabao grass) and the big group of B vitamins. These vitamins travel through the chickens blood stream and whatever their body doesn’t need is eliminated in their droppings.
The fat soluble vitamins are Vitamins A, D, E & K. These vitamins stay stored in their body for a few days while others can stay up to 6 months. Overdosing of fat soluble vitamins can damage their liver. Therefore, I recommend you give the minimum daily requirement. It would be difficult to quantify this if you mix it in their feed.
My other concern is that human preparation vitamins are made according to the normal ph of human beings. Bearing in mind the highly acidic nature of the chickens digestive tract, there is a possibility that not all of the components of the vitamins are absorbed. This is why I prefer that they be given in injectable form.

Re: Mixing vitamins in the feed

Feeding fowls orally with vitamins is like paying for expensive urine. period.
Like the Good doctor says not all the components of the vitamins are absorbed due to the highly acidic nature of the chicken's digestive tract. Nowadays I used injectable (vet use) multivitamins and B comp, iron and the likes.
The other advantage is you only inject them once or twice a week. Saves a lot of hassle and time spent as compared to giving pills orally. secondly, its much much cheaper than buying those pills. And non goes to waste, it goes into their blood after injecting.

Nowadays after i start using injectable vitamins, I have seen a great improvement in the general health of my fowls, they have better appetite and more alert/active.
Try it guys and you will notice the difference.

Re: Mixing vitamins in the feed

Doc I mix my supplements with my feeds once a week when I feed my gamefowls wet feeds for that day. I only feed wet feeds once a week and I add the supplements in the feeds but I like to minimize the amounts i use. For example I would grind 3 multi-vitiman pills, 3 dessicated liver pills, 2 tablespoon of cod liver oil(molting season), 1/2 a teaspoon Vit E, 2 b12 5,000 pills, shark cratligde,& about 3/4 cup of red cell. I mix and soak all these pills in water bottle w/water for a few hours and shake it here and there. Then I'll mix with 2.5 gallons of water and pour it into my feeds and soak it for a few hours. that will feed about 200 to 250 gamefowls. Is what I'm doing is ok Doc?
