How does folic acid in tablet form benefit/help our fowls?. Is it toxic if given say, twice a week? I am asking because i do have a lot of these folic acid at home, after my wife gave birth, so i do not want to throw them away. lol. Thanks doc.

Re: Folic Acid

Folic Acid is a B vitamin and a part of their enzyme system and is required for normal nucleic acid metabolism to promote cell multiplication.
Folic Acid deficiency in chicks is characterized by:
Poor Growth
Poor Feathering
Anemia
Perosis

A deficiency in the breeding diet of chickens causes a marked increase in embryonic mortality. Embryos die soon after pipping the air cell.

Re: Folic Acid

doc,
I think you can give the recommended safe dosage of folic acid for sir eastcoast's fowls. it is not necessary to know if he has 0.4 mg, 0.8mg, or 1mg tablet in hand.
lets say for example if you will prescribe 200 micrograms once a week so i think mr eastcoast can calculate to give 1/2 of his 0.4 mg tablet, 1/4 of his 0.8mg tablet or 1/5 of his 1 mg tablet, unless maybe if its non formulary dosage in relation to his available stock in hand.
opinion lang po,
