In my case, I use a scalpel and slide it towards the bottom part of the toe nail. You have to be careful not to scrape it too short and it should not exceed the blood vein.
If not done properly, you may end up hurting you rooster. This is a delicate procedure that is best learned through actual demo in the academy.
