Air Force1,
This is simple. the best way to answer this is to start from the beggining, say you found a rooster and for the sake of this argument we will call him "joey melendres" and we will call the hen "cindy crawford" when you decide to breed this two, the outcome of this mating would be the joey and cindy "family" (cross) now you discover that this family is an excellent cross and you want to maintain this line, you then need to "line breed" choosing your "ideal" chicken until your reach uniformity, this is then called a "strain" now because only you and you alone have produced this strain the fun part is you get to name it. You can call it "pretty" if you like. Now for argument sake you decide to sell or give a trio away to Billy Ruble and he breeds them but his "ideal" chicken is different from yours. He decides to breed only the pea combed whilst the original was straight combed, and he gains uniformity by setting a strain he then can call them "Ruble Pretty". Now say you decide that somewhere along the the "line" you will "split" and change your "ideal" chicken to pea combed and beacause you have already named it "pretty" you can then say "pretty straight combed line" or "pretty pea combed line". I hope this answers your question.... keep em game......... joey.. ps: Webmaster, I have finished the genetic article and will email it as soon as I get back home ........ |

Hello Joey, Nice to see you back on the board, and that was indeed a good explanation. You seems to have the ability to make complicated things look so simple...but I think that no matter what rooster you paired with a "Cindy Crawford" hen, it will always be an excellent cross! LOL! Thanks Joey, we will be waiting for your article. Yours in sport, jrtras |

Every1,
Sorry I've been away, I spent the last two weeks trying to catch a chicken on King Island. An old man who inhabited the Island had some Butchers and when he died the wife let all the chicken go, it funny to see 300-400 roosters that are 5-6 years old with their comb on. I caught their kingpin without realising that this would cause a problem.... 6 dead roosters when I woke up in the morning when I left they were still at it... Golden, Hi, its good to hear from you... No I have not receive the Mags yet, But im so looking forward to it, it should get here this week..... keep em game... joey |
