Cagayan cockers picked in 'Bakbakan'

THE SECOND of the two-part semifinals of Bakbakan 2003 National 8-Stag derby gets under way at the Big Dome today with more than 100 matches lined up. The first fight is set at 11 a.m. Back-to-back champion Cagayan Valley Gamefowl Breeders Association tightened its grip on a possible third straight victory---and permanent ownership of the Bakbakan perpetual trophy plus Hall of Fame status---after one of its members, Eddie Solangon (Firepower San Luis entry) led last Saturday's semifinals as the only undefeated bet with a perfect score of five points. The Cagayan breeders fielded four entries and accounted for one 5- pointer and three 4- pointers. Finishing with 4.5 points apiece were Piwa Honey Lucban-ll and RAF Blue Water. Among the other 4-pointers were Arnold Mendoza's H&H Tayug Armen and Boy Gamilla's CYR BMJ, both of which were bidding to duplicate Solangon's score only to lose their last matches against MS NU Red Hawk-2 and CVGBA Vertical Limit-CLU, respectively. The much-awaited 3-stag finals is set this Wednesday. Hosted by the National Federation of Gamefowl Breeders, Bakbakan 2003 is presented by Thunderbird Platinum, Casino Filipino and Derby Ace. Event partner is Supremo Feeds, while sponsors are Amtyl 500, Vitarich Panabong Feeds, Anima-Strath, Power-Pak, Belamyl, Progressive Poultry Supply, Hobby Master Incubators, RG Incubator and Washout Shampoo.
